Under the Affordable Care Act (sometimes called “Obamacare”), many low-income Montanans may be eligible to get help to pay for health insurance. The help comes in the form of subsidies or tax credits. The amount of the subsidy or tax credit depends on your income and other facts. The subsidy and tax credits would apply to insurance from the federal Health Insurance Marketplace.
The Health Insurance Marketplace is a new program that Montanans can use beginning October 1, 2013, to find and enroll for affordable health insurance. Coverage for eligible Montanans would start as soon as January 1, 2013. The Marketplace also tells you if you qualify for free or low-cost coverage available through Medicaid or childrens' health insurance programs.
In Montana, three companies will be selling health insurance policies on the Health Insurance Marketplace. Those companies are Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Montana, PacificSource, and the Montana Health Co-op.
You can learn about your options at www.Healthcare.gov or by calling 1-800-318-2596.
