Office of Child and Family Ombudsman (OCFO) responds to the requests of citizens who have concerns about children involved in the child protection system or in need of protection. OCFO helps educate and protect the rights of Montana families and children with both case specific and systems change interventions.

Montana Office of the State Public Defender provides effective assistance of counsel to indigent persons who by law are entitled to representation by an attorney for a variety of cases—not only those accused of crimes, but parents and children who are experiencing the child welfare system, elderly people losing autonomy over their affairs, and mentally ill people facing commitment.
Legal Services Developer Program focuses on serving Montanans 60 and over at pro-bono legal document clinics around the state and providing legal services through various programs like Justice Served and phone legal advice clinics.

Montana Innocence Project works to free the innocent and unjustly incarcerated, and advocate for systems of Justice that are accurate, accountable, and fair for all.

Benefits of Service
2024-2025 Cohort
- Living allowance of $23,800 divided equally over 48-week term of service
- An AmeriCorps Education Award of $7,395 upon successful completion of 1,700 hours of service. Members aged 55 and over may transfer the education award to a child, grandchild or foster child
- Guaranteed health benefits, as well as child care assistance if qualified
- Relocation allowance of up to $550 if the service site is 50 miles or more from current residence.
- Hands-on experience and training working in the legal field with lawyers, judges, and other professional staff
- Practical law and social services related experience
- Opportunity to live, serve, and be part of the AmeriCorps team in the state of Montana
2025-2026 Cohort
- Living allowance will be updated in late Spring 2025, stipend is divided equally over 48-week term of service
- An AmeriCorps Education Award, this amount is based on the Pell grant in the year we are awarded our grant and will be updated in late Spring 2025. Members aged 55 and over may transfer the education award to a child, grandchild or foster child
- Guaranteed health benefits, as well as child care assistance if qualified
- Relocation allowance of up to $550 if the service site is 50 miles or more from current residence.
- Hands-on experience and training working in the legal field with lawyers, judges, and other professional staff
